GENERAL INFORMATION (Refer to Diagrams 1 through 4 and specifications chart)

Thank you for choosing a Tesail Outboard Motor.
This Tesail Outboard Owner's Manual contains information required for proper operation, maintenance and care.
If you have any questions about the operation or maintenance of your Tesail Outboard Motor, please consult our company, Tesail Outboard Motors Ltd.
Read this outboard motor owner's manual carefully and completely and understand all the information before operating your Tesail Outboard Motor.

SAFETY INFORMATION

1. Before installing or operating your outboard motor read this entire manual. Reading it should give you a good understanding of your Tesail Outboard Motor and its operation.
2. Do not overpower the boat with your outboard motor. Overpowering the boat could result in loss of control.
The rated power of the outboard should be equal to or less than the rated horsepower capacity of the boat.
If the rated horsepower capacity of the boat is unknown, consult the boat dealer or manufacturer prior to operation.
3. Do not modify the outboard. Modifications could render the motor unfit or unsafe for use.
4. Never operate after drinking alcohol or while under the influence of intoxicating drugs. Approximately 50% of all boating fatalities involve some form of intoxication.
5. Every occupant on board should have (and wear) an approved personal flotation device (PFD).
6. Gasoline is highly flammable and it's vapors are flammable and explosive. Handle and store gasoline carefully. Make sure there are no gas fumes or leaking fuel before starting the engine.
7. This product emits exhaust fumes, which contain carbon monoxide, a colorless, ordorless gas, which may cause brain damage or death when inhaled. Symptoms may include; nausea, dizziness and drowsiness. Use your outboard in well ventilated areas and avoid blocking exhaust outlets.
8. Check your throttle, shift and steering for proper operation before starting your Tesail engine. Regularly check fuel lines and connections for leaks.
9. Keep hands and other body parts clear of propeller and other moving engine parts. Do not operate engine with engine cowlings removed.
10. Know the marine laws where you will be boating and obey them.
11. Stay informed about the weather. Check weather forecast before boating. Avoid boating in hazardous weather.
12. Tell someone where you are going. Leave a float plan with a responsible person.
13. Use common sense and good judgement when boating and operating your Tesail Outboard. Always operate at safe speeds and keep a careful watch for obstacles and other traffic.
14. Always watch carefully for swimmers when operating your Tesail Outboard. Stay away from swimming areas. When a swimmer is in the water nearby, shut off your engine.

FUELING INSTRUCTIONS

Gasoline and its vapors are highly flammable and explosive.
1. Do not smoke when refueling and keep away from sparks, flames and other sources of ignition.
2. Shut off your Tesail Outboard Engine before refueling.
3. Use unleaded gasoline only. Use low smoke 2 stroke engine oil.
4. The add mixture for gas and oil ratio, for this outboard under normal usage, should be 20-25:1.
Mixing Steps: Recommended oil is 2 cycle engine oil formulated for air cooled engines or an oil such as Havoline 2 cycle engine oil TC-W3, which is designed for both water and air cooled engines. (1) Pour oil into provided fuel mixing canister. (2) Pour gasoline into provided fuel mixing canister. (3) Mix thoroughly by shaking. (4) Pour gas/oil mixture into fuel tank (See Dia 1 Fig 1). Please use accuracy when preparing your mixture, do not fluctuate and use the provided oil/gas mixing container.
5. Do not overfill your outboard motor gas tank. Use clean, fresh unleaded gasoline when preparing your outboard fuel mixture.
6. The add mixture is best when prepared at the time of use and should be shaken well prior to use.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

1. ENGINE STARTING PREPARATION
1.1 Ensure your outboard engine is mounted properly and securely to your boat transom prior to use. Improper mounting of your outboard motor could create hazards.
1.1(1) Place your Tesail Outboard as close to the center of your boat transom as possible.
1.1(2) Tighten the transom clamp screws (Dia 1 Fig 6) evenly and securely. Check your clamp screws for tightness occasionally.
1.2 Press fuel primer bulb (Dia 2 Fig 5) to move fuel mix to carburetor.
1.3 Place choke switch (Dia 2 Fig 3) in close position(if engine is warm, choke switch in open position).

2. TO START ENGINE
2.1 Pull the recoil starter handle (Dia 3 Fig 4) gentle until resistance is felt. Then, vigorusly pull the handle straight out to crank the engine to start it. Repeat if necessary.
2.2 After your Tesail Outboard Motor has started, idle at low speed for 3 to 5 minutes, then gradually adjust (Dia 1 Fig 4) to the desired acceleration.
2.3 Your Tesail Outboard Engine is equipped with an easy idle adjustment control knob, conveniently located on throttle cable directly above throttle cable base (Dia 2 Fig 2).

3. REVERSE
3.1 Turn engine 180 degrees while in idling position, then increase to desired acceleration.

4. TO STOP OR SHUT DOWN ENGINE
4.1 Before shutting down your Tesail Outboard, let the engine return to lowest idling speed for two minutes to cool, then press engine stop button (Dia 2 Fig 1). Pushing this button opens the ignition current and stops the engine.
4.2 When your outboard motor is cool and not in use, or stored outside, use a Tesail Outboard Engine cover to protect your outboard motor.

5. BREAKING IN YOUR Tesail OUTBOARD
5.1 The break in period for your Tesail Outboard Motor is four hours. During this time make sure your fuel/oil add mixture is a minimum of 20:1 (20 parts gasoline to 1 part oil).
5.2 Do not operate your engine under constant speeds during this time and do not run at full speed for more than ten minutes at a time. Fluctuate your speeds.

6. CRUISING IN SHALLOW WATER
6.1 Your Tesail Outboard motor can be tilted up (Dia 4) to allow operation in shallow water.
6.2 Run your Tesail Outboard at the lowest possible speed while using shallow water cruising system. CAUTION: If operator hits underwater obstacle, propeller could lift out of water resulting in loss of control.
6.3 Place your outboard to it's normal position as soon as your boat is in deeper water.

7. TILT TRIM ANGLE ADJUSTING
7.1 Trim angle adjusting rod (Dia 3 Fig 7) can be adjusted to determine the angle of the outboard motor in relation to the boat transom. This outboard is equipped with a tilt support fitting pin (Dia 1 Fig 9) to support outboard in upright position while not in operation.

8. CRUISING
8.1 When operating your Tesail Outboard, at full speed, find your critical throttle position. Holding throttle at 100% wide open may not necessarily increase speed and may decrease fuel economy. Try your throttle at 80% or 90% open.

9. MAINTENANCE
9.1 Regularly check for loose nuts or bolts. Regularly check fuel line connections and check for fuel or air leaks. After each eight hours of operation, rinse air cleaner (Dia 2 Fig 4) with gasoline.
9.2 After each salt water use and the engine is shut off, wash the exterior of your outboard motor thorougly with a damp cloth and rinse engine leg with fresh water. Flush fresh water through your outboard motor leg and engine water cooling system. Do not allow water to pass exhaust port and enter air cylinder - engine damage may occur. Do not place engine on it's side.
9.3 Always store your engine in a well ventilated area. For long term storage you should run your engine and fuel tank completely dry of fuel.
9.4 Regularly use water and corrosion resistant grease to reduce friction and wear on your outboard motor parts below bottom of cowling level. Also, a grease fitting nipple is provided (Dia 3 Fig 3).

10. CHANGING GEAR OIL
10.1 Gear oil should be changed every three months with specified gear oil.
10.1(1) Position your outboard so that gear oil drain screw (located near propeller) is in lowest point possible. Remove drain screw (lower screw) and remove oil level plug(upper screw) and drain gear oil completely into suitable container.
10.1(2) Insert and tighten drain screw. With outboard in vertical position, inject the gear oil into oil level plug hole.
10.1(3) When full, insert and tighten oil level plug.
